VEILS. VELOS.
In this series the focus is on “veiled” human beings regardless of their gender or cultural backgrounds. I want to focus on personal or social veils, on half-hidden human beings however active on their observation of the world. We find ourselves facing characters for which their eyes are the only instruments to relate to their world. Their gaze is the mechanism that retrieves information but also, inadvertently, the one that gives information to the outside world. They are human beings reduced to the act of gazing.
There are no time coordinates.
Behind the veil only their gazes remain.

En esta serie el foco está sobre seres humanos “velados” independientemente de su género o entorno cultura. Quiero dirigir la atención sobre los velos personales o sociales, sobre seres humanos semiocultos que sin embargo son activos en su observación del mundo. Nos encontramos ante personajes para los cuales sus ojos son los únicos instrumentos para relacionarse con el mundo. Sus ojos proporcionan el mecanismo que capta la información, pero también, inadvertidamente, el que envía información al mundo exterior. Ellos son seres humanos reducidos al acto de contemplar con la mirada.
No hay coordenadas temporales.
Tras el velo sólo sus miradas permanecen.

Creating this gallery of characters I had an odd experience. Never mind if the character was male or female, young or old or which was their social position, all of them became possessed of an strange calm, many times a contained calm. All of them act as if their veils provided them with a barricade, an unbeatable line of defence behind which the character regards the world.
To these characters, their veil is a way of looking without being seen. But let us not forget that a veil is also a prison: a prison close to the skin.
Veils are the most intimate of prisons.

Creando esta galería de personajes, tuve una extraña experiencia. No importa si el personaje era masculino o femenino, joven o viejo o cual era su posición social, todos ellos adquirían una profunda calma, muchas veces un calma contenida. Todos ellos actúan como si el velo les proporcionara una barricada, una insuperable línea de defensa tras la cual el personaje observa el mundo.
Para estos personajes, el velo provee una forma de mirar sin ser visto. Sin embargo, no hay que olvidar que el velo es también una prisión: una prisión muy cercana a la piel.
El velo es la más íntima de las prisiones.
